Scouting Tips

Pro Scouting
Most colleges will be visited by NFL scouts
to look at potential NFL
players. If you think scouts will not visit
your school then talk to your coach about
getting them to come and take a look at you.
You can also get noticed by the NFL and other professional football leagues through regional combines.
Scout Camp Pro Football Regional Combines offers NFL draft eligible college seniors, pro football veterans and qualified free-agent football
players seeking contracts in the NFL, NFL Europe, CFL, AFL and af2 the chance to attend one of several nationwide SCOUT CAMP locations where they
are timed, filmed and evaluated by pro scouts. The data is then provided to all NFL, NFL Europe, CFL and Arena Football League teams. There's a registration
fee involved, but your name and numbers are published online line and in hardcopy, plus they are kept in a database that is used by the leagues' personnel people throughout the year.
NFL
Draft
During my junior year I first realized I had
a chance to play professional football. Scouts
were coming by to look at the departing seniors
and I was told by my college coaches that
the scouts were also looking at me. They said
I had a chance at being a lineman but the
probability was higher that I would be a longsnapper.
From there I played my senior season and then
prepared for the workout days in front of
the scouts. I was not invited to the combine
so the workouts were very big for me.
When
the draft rolled around I knew that I would
be invited to some teams camp as a free agent,
but was not sure if I would be drafted.
On
draft day I was first called by the Packers
and told I was going to be taken with their next pick which was their first pick of the 7th round. Right after I hung up the phone with the Packers, the Bears called and said I was just picked by them.
At that point I looked at the TV on ESPN 2 and saw my name roll across the bottom of the screen.
